ZOO LIGHTS
CHRISTMAS 2006

GINGERBREAD HOUSE DECORATING PARTY
Our season started with Daphne Brown and Susan Leigh hosting a gingerbread house decorating party. Everyone had a great time (kids and moms). Each child was able to create their own house to be used as an ornament on their tree. This was a labor of love. Everyone was sticky from head to toe. We will still be finding Christmas sprinkles and red hots in August. (In our August news letter you will probably see pictures of this event as is the camera is still lost!!!!!!!!!
CHRISTMAS EVE AND ZOO LIGHTS
Our 2006 Christmas Eve was a celebration enjoyed by all. Judy and John Lang worked relentlessly with their church group to assure our kids who had attended tutoring this year were loaded down with great Christmas gifts. A special thank you goes to New Hope Christian Church where Judy, John and Rachel Lang are members. A special thank you goes to Angie Murphy, who got several of her friends to adopt our kids for Christmas. We were fortunate enough to meet Carla Higgins at a fundraiser this year. Carla along with Briarcrest Jr. K East Campus brought us presents wrapped and labeled for some of our kids So many people in the back ground get over looked unintentionally. We especially want to thank Tony Braswell, Terry Harris, Ashley Harris, Rachel Lang and Stacie for wrapping the many gifts which were donated. Christmas Eve afternoon Ann Forbis and her daughter Katie wrapped the extra and last minute gifts. They supplied gifts for kids that we realized we had overlooked. They brought us all kinds of snacks and foods to share with the kids’ families. Again this year Ron and Shirley Curlin provided gifts for the kids and even made a second trip by with batteries. Special thanks to Mac and Henry Carrier for the donations of gifts and gift cards. We appreciate Linda Robinson telling her co-workers about Rachel’s Kids Inc. Her social security office staff generously gave hygiene products the children can use here and at home. Mike and Jenny Aviotti again this year filled a need and created boxes of food, hard goods and medical supplies that were given out Christmas Eve to families. An early Christmas present this year was Mike and his brother Phillip building a 10 foot fence around the property that houses Rachel’s Kids Inc. Mike and Jenny, Rachel’s Kids Inc. sure appreciate you.
Our holiday surprise and blessing came from Brent Gaia and Cindy Boone. Circumstances beyond his control left Brent with Christmas packages wrapped and ready to give to children. Brent was unable to contact the organization the gifts were collected for and his Mother’s mission spirit provided gifts for our kids. What a blessing.
Carol and Jim Prentiss gave us a great Christmas Present. We had the opportunity to take 30 kids to Zoo Lights. What a great time we had. We wrapped up in several layers of clothes and hats, some funnier hats than others. We saw the lights, visited the bats, petted the snakes, and covered our faces in icing while decorating doughnuts. We spilled hot chocolate, watched magic shows, and really got into the spirit of the holidays. If you have not done this put it on your calendar for next year, this was one of our highlights for the holiday season. Thanks so much to Jim and Carol.
Besides the worker bees there are the financial givers who help supply Christmas gifts, and that also keeps us going for the other 364 days a year. We would not be able to publish this without them.
Harry and Rachel want you to know your faith in them, and believing they are making a difference is what keeps Rachel’s Kids Inc. alive and well.
May your 2007 be a year like Rachel’s Kids Inc. strives for, where we learn to get along, to become knowledgeable about our differences, to be better individuals, to love one another and most of all remember when we visit new places to “use your inside voices.”
