Our Accomplishments

Here is what Rachel, Harry, and their team of volunteers have accomplished::

  • Developed and nurtured loving trusting relationships among a group of high-risk children living under disadvantaged conditions of poverty, violence, crime, drugs, and unstable family relationships.
  • Demonstrate the love of Christ through self-sacrifice, sharing, kindness and commitment to a personal relationship with the kids.
  • Mentored 75-100 children under age 18; provided many resources on a contingency basis for the children such as transportation to the doctor, clothing, shoes, school supplies, books, and at times went to court to support children who found their way into the judicial system.
  • Tutored children with homework and science projects
  • Provided children an opportunity to worship, and through Christian discipleship developed and understood the importance of character, integrity, and self-respect.
  • Provided educational and recreational opportunities in a safe and wholesome environment allowing for personal growth and enrichment
  • Provided individual and group counseling to older children in an effort to develop neighborhood leaders who are responsible and accountable to themselves and their group.
  • Provided safe housing for families in danger of homelessness or living in extremely dangerous conditions by purchasing three homes and restoring them to conditions suitable for a family to occupy and thrive.  Previously condemned properties now have families living in them with children playing in the front yards.
  • Fully funded summer camp experiences for many of the neighborhood children.  Camp is a key method of outreach to the kids.  Summer and weekend camps provided the opportunity to leave the daily environment, kids entered into a new environment, free from the usual stress, threats and distractions so that they can focus more clearly on the issues they face and learn more about themselves and their choices/alternatives.
  • Organized sports teams; equip (including uniforms), coach, and transport two boys’ basketball teams in the Memphis Athletic Ministry league.  The girls were organized into a cheer squad and were provided uniforms, instruction, and transportation to all the games.
  • Organized, funded, and coordinated outings to professional and college sports events for the kids.
  • Helped parents manage money, set up family budgets, teach life skills (i.e. obtain driver's licenses), and teach and rehearse job interview skills, to help break the cycle of poverty, failure, and hopelessness.
  • Last 5 years delivered  Thanksgiving food baskets and at Christmas we provided toys for nearly 100 children bringing a measure of comfort and joy to the kids during the Holiday season.
