Biography

A Memphis native started enjoying the arts at the age of four years old in his living room dancing and watching his father sing. Wanting to follow in the footsteps of his Father ( Elvritt Hambrick), he dreamed big.

At the age of fourteen he and his family relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah where he taught physically handicapped teenagers creative movement. By the age of sixteen he knew that he wanted to dedicate his time working with kids.

While in high school he attended Butlers Dance Academy where he studied the fundamentals/basics of dance. Those fundamentals, along with his natural talent, got him an audition and a job on the TV show Kids Incorporated where he danced and composed one of the songs for the TV Pilot. Soon after he performed in a host of musicals, commercials, and videos such as: A Chorus Line, Cats, 42 nd Street, Show Boat, God spell, Little Shop of Horrors, Oklahoma, Rhapsody in Blue (Gershwin), Jesus Christ Super Star, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, Snow Queen Ballet, and Saturday's Warrior (video) just to name a few.

While performing and working in one the best dance studios in Salt Lake City, Center Stage Dance, DeWayne was offered a chance to work with the children of one of the most famous families around today, The Osmond's. The children were the Osmond boys, sons of Allan Osmond. Dewayne choreographed their European tour and one of their videos.

After spending a few more years in Salt Lake City choreographing, dancing, singing, and writing music DeWayne decided to take his talents to Dallas, Texas . While in Texas he performed in a couple of Mary K industrials as a singer and dancer and shared his love of music and dance with children he worked with. For two summers DeWayne worked on one of the most rewarding jobs to date; working closely with an organization called The Store Front of The ARTS. The organization was set up to do two things: to teach young kids about all forms of the Arts, and to help young teenagers get off the streets by helping them with basic education skills, teaching them job skills, and then locating jobs for them.

In 1995 DeWayne had the opportunity to make children smile by portraying the character Ole King Cole on the Barney US and European tour as well as on the Barney TV show. Then, in 1999, the hottest kid group around, The Wiggles, asked him to come on board to sing and dance his way into the hearts of millions of children all over the US and Canada as Henry the Octopus.

In 2003 DeWayne decided to return home where his dreams began, Memphis, Tennessee . He is currently teaching near Memphis at Studio B in Germantown and KinderKreations in Cordova. Home is where he wants to give back to his community. His vision is to give to kids what he has been so blessed to have, A CHANCE.
